Successes
- Media and outreach coordinator for a groundbreaking documentary, “Africa: Open for Business,”
a film featuring successful African entrepreneurs and private investors. Organizer for film screenings
in major U.S. and international cities and successfully garnered media placements on CNN/US, National
Public Radio, Christian Science Monitor, BBC, and various international and U.S. newspapers among
others.
- Primary organizer for the 2004 World AIDS Day press conference with Dr. Peter Piot,
UNAIDS Secretary General and Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta, president of the International Center for
Research on Women. Drafted press conference speech for Dr. Gupta, which was prominently highlighted in
World AIDS Day news stories worldwide. More than 70 major U.S. and international media outlets ran stories
on the press conference.
- Spearheaded media and outreach efforts for UNICEF’s UN Girls’ Education Initiative event on girls’
education, “Missing the Gender Parity Mark, Accelerating Progress,” during the Beijing Plus Ten process
at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
- Organized press conference on the status of Afghan women on the eve of Afghan elections with the Women’s
Edge Coalition, Amnesty International, Save the Children, and Policy Council on Afghan Women. Generated more
than 25 news articles.
- Conceptualized and led communications efforts of a nationwide campaign, “Million Women Challenge”
for the Women’s Edge Coalition, which aimed to reach one million American women to encourage action on
critical international women’s issues. The campaign doubled the original goal by reaching nearly 3
million women.
- Wrote "Your Guide to Global Issues: A Safer, Better World Begins With Women," an advocacy resource from the
Women’s Edge Coalition, featuring 12 of the most pressing international issues from economic opportunities and
trafficking to non-military alternatives. The resource was selected as the one of the Aspen Institute Global
Interdependence Initiatives’ “Top Ten - Best of 2004” .
- Developed a cadre of humanitarian aid worker bloggers to chronicle their lives in hot spots around
the world for a radio segment on The World Vision Report. The World Vision Report is a weekend radio newsmagazine
and daily feature that draws attention to the human drama behind the global issues and events that impact the
world’s poorest children and families.
